ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: ATI

Weakness: No improvement over the ATI Radeon 9500 Pro 'Built by ATI"

NOT overclockable that I know of, as my 9500 Pro was, and can't perform at the levels my 9500 Pro overclocked to 9700 Pro gives.

Just telling it like it is.

Buy 9700 or 9500 pro's over this model with preference to the 9700 Pro now for your best buy.

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: Price

Weakness: Day of Defeat will not run properly

I bought this card specifically for valVes Day of Defeat aka DoD...and to be honest it just sucks...I was running a a Gforce 4 128mb card and it was flawless...this 9600xt 256mb card since install will not run for more then 20 minutes before it frizzzzes out and ruins my game and I have to restart my PC to fix it...sometimes it starts out as freaky graphics (boxes go techni-color then little blocks fly accross the screen..then the whole screen turns into little blocks and freezes the whole screen...I tried downloading the latest drivers...no such luck...same thing...then it gets real glitchy almost like you have a wall hack...you start seeing through stuff...it just plane sucks...I`m going to put my Gforce back in and go back to playing and toss this junky card in the trash.

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: 128MB?

Weakness: Not sure yet but they are there.

I have just upgraded from my ATI 32MB all-in-wonder-pro card. My computer is Pentium 4 2.6GHZ 512 RAM Windows 98SE OS. Not bad I figured? Well try to run Battlefield 1942. It won't. It's choppy and annoying even at the lowest settings. Othergames like Neverwinter nights run crappy too. Oh well, i guess it's nice to say I have a 128MB card. Very frustrated with the decision to buy this card.

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: None

Weakness: Unreliable operation when using DVI port. Cool fan is failing after only 6 months. Won't display 1600x1200 on the VGA port, only the DVI.

I've only owned this card for 6 months and the cooling fan just started making a loud annoying noise. That's unacceptable for a $190 card! I'm waiting to find out if ATI will send me a new fan or if they expect me to pay $10 to send it back in for repair, leaving me with no card and costing me more than just buying a new fan. If they won't, I think I'll just unplug the fan, let the card burn up and then never buy ATI products again.

The other ongoing problem is that if I just have my flat screen connected with the DVI connector, after win2k boots, my screen is blank. If I hook the DVI **AND** the VGA connectors to my flat screen, it works fine and stays in digital mode--pretty annoying. It also won't properly display 1600x1200 on the VGA port--my other systems work fine at 1600x1200.

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: Good Colors, Fast

Weakness: Locks-up (alot).

Folks, for the money you pay. This video card should be able to run all the games out there. Especially the ones that are more popular. C&C Generals, Never Winter Nights, Age of Mythology. Right?
Well, it doesn't. It'll lock up your system and you'll be forever in trying to find a solution. Take my advice...buy an Nvidia, and you'll avoid a lot of hassles and nashing of teeth. Granted, the Nvidia 5200 may not by as "powerful" but...you'll be happier.

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: ATI has a nice driver interface, easy overclockablility

I've been using this card for a long time. I even added/modded 8 Ramsinks to the memory chips for my card from www.2cooltek.com I used Artic Silver Thermal Adhesive

It runs all my games fairly well @ 1280 resolution, (didn't try the new Catalyst 4.2 drivers yet, they're supposed to improve performance.)

However, the card that I own is not a good overclocker. The default core/mem is near 400/300 and people can get it to 500/350. A good overclock would be 450/340. Anyways I can't overclock over 20 mhz, even with my ramsinks, or I'll get artifacts. My record 3dmark 2001SE is 14000+.

I recommend this card if you get a good one.

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: The Price is good, and yes its is a fine card BUT!!!

Weakness: It doesnt matter how much you pay for an Item , its if you can afford it and IF it will do the job, this card doesnt.

I have many games and battle field 1942 and AOM and HOMM IV these games do NOT work well in fact they dont work at all, I bought this card thinking (stupidily) that I would get Faster game playstopping mouse sloutch and enhauncing the picture, MY mistake, as all it does is hang the game and crash them. OK FFXI works well and Diablo and WarCraft But one would think that if you pay for a product like this at least it would work with all games. IF not whats the point?? I must say I never had problems with NVIDIA and today I junked the RADEON and bought a NVIDIA 5900 WOW what a difference , yes a little more expensive , but at least I get to use my games, and not just look at a pretty box. Nice try Radeon , keep trying though!

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: Great video quality, FAST!!and stable

Weakness: None that I aware of.

Great card, highly overclockable and awesome video quality.
This card rocks for it price. I have not had any issues with this card whatsoever. Also I have helped install this in numerous friends computers with no real issues. Just be sure in you bios to disable Fast Writes and it will run smooth as silk without any hiccups.

Highly recomended Card !!

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: 128 MB DDR, 400Mhz engine, 600Mhz memory, 13u process, means that runs cooler and can be tweak @ 500Mhz and 700Mhz

Weakness: none

With the next-generation games looming on the horizon with the promise of incredible details and obscene numbers of polygons, the performance level of the graphics card in your system is set to become more of a priority than I have seen in years. Given the sheer complexity of these titles, the graphics card of choice must possess support for the latest and greatest features as well as the raw horsepower to provide acceptable performance.
Whether it be running default settings or utilizing higher image-quality settings, the Radeon 9600 Pro has more than enough power to spare. Those looking to have solid frame-rates without a large price-tag are nearly forced to look at this card as it represents an excellent price/performance ratio.

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: Cheap, crt/dvi/tv outputs, Fully DirectX 9 compatible.

Weakness: Not TOP of the line, but pretty dern close, especially for the money.

I bought this card on Maximum Pc's review, and have had nothing but good experiences with it. I have had it for several months, and never had any problems. I have an Athalon XP 2500+, with 512mb ram, running XP professional. I have played the following games with all the visual settings jacked up with no problems.

Counter-strike
Day of defeat
Tribes 2
Starcraft
Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun
Command & Conquer Red strike
America's Army
Battlefield 1942
Battlefield 1942: Desert Combat
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Ultra HLE n64 emulator
Snes9x

Games that had a little hiccup in them when running at full settings:

Command & Conquer Generals
Command & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour
(Seemed as though when there were a LOT of tanks and things on screen, there was a bit of graphics slowdown, but that could be my proc.)

As for all of these other people who said it "Locked up" etc. I have a feeling that Maximum pc wouldnt have said it was the best budget video card if it didnt run on ANYONE'S system. Those of you whom it didn't work for, might want to check out your settings and compatibility, etc. I would definetly recommend this card, hands down.

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: Powerful 3D Graphics Video Card at a reasonable price. I tried two nVidia GeForce cards prior to this one had had to return both of them. This card does excellent work at Video and 3D graphic.

Weakness: Installation manual is weak - I had to contact ATI direct for installation support - however - the support was excellent. They just need to write a new manual for this board.

For the price, this card can't be beat. It has the speed, memory and bandwidth throughput for graphic intensive applications and games. There is not an nVidia card at a similar price that is on a similar playing field. I tried two different nVidia cards prior to this one on a new Sony VAIO Desktop. I tried the nVidia 5200 MX 440 and a nVidia 5600 FX - neither one did a good job with video or 3D graphics. The ATI Radeon 9600 Pro is well worth the price!

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: It plays all the games that I have tested with all details maxed at high fram rates. The price is excellent and it is truly the best bang for the buck in my opinion.

Weakness: none.

The card is the best. It doesnt use power from the motherboard, therefore older computers like mine can install it with no problems and still get excellent quality, and be able to truley "max" out the computer to its full potential.

Overall this card is excellent and i recommend it to everyone to use. it the best mid-level card i have seen on the market!!!

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: Great video card, Ati is about the best you can get! Easy to overclock rock steady!!!!!!

Weakness: Fans tend to be on the weak side, could be bigger and better.

Have been using this card for 9 months now, I have it overclocked pretty good and have no problem with heating issues, very steady video card! The only problem has been the fan started to make noise after about 3 months of use, no biggy tho, just spent 14.00 and got a bigger and better fan to keep it cooler. I dont see the need to complain about the card and the fan issue tho!!!!!!!

OH P.S. Unless that is a $ 800-900.00 LCD your using it's not going to support 1600x1200 resolution! you might want to look at the spec's on it before blaming a good product for your mistake!!!!!!

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: price/performance, Ease installation, graphic quality.

Weakness: I haven't found any yet.

I have a Dell 8200 -2ghz p4 processor with 768mgb of RDRAM.

I upgraded my nvidia geforce 3 ti 200 card and was amazed at the detail I was missing on the games I play. I have replayed most of the games I purchased over the last 2 years. It is almost like playing the games for the first time with the difference in graphics quality. The 3D effects and shading are unbeleivable.

The only game I am not able to play at the highest setting due to the frame rate - "is Battlefield 1942" - (Road to Rome expansion pack). I have to play it at the medium quality setting. Even at that quality the graphics are phenominal compared to what I had been used to.

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: reliability

Weakness: none found yet

i am a serious gamer and i have put this card through so much abuse its not even funny. i play some really demanding games like battlefield 1942,unreal 03 and 04, and have had no problems. i have it overclocked but its probably not nessesary. it works along-side great with my atlon 2400+ overclocked to 2.2ghz, and 512mb memory. i have used nvidia cards with 128mb but none compare to the radeon.

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card

Strengths: Overclockable up to 513/357 stable without artifacts! Better result with DX9 games after overclocked even over 9700 PRO. CHEAP! Has same feature as 9800. Best $/FPS!

Weakness: Only 4pipeline.

I recommend this card over Radeon 9500. 9500PRO is locked like 9700 but can be modified and overclocked to 9700 and has 8Pipelines but not as good in running DX9 games compare to 9600PRO. If you have $200 to spend and thinking about 9500, stop, get 9800 NON-PRO Non-SE.
Radeon 9600PRO has same feature as 9800, basically you are getting a 9800SE but better. Extremely overclockable. from 400/300 to 520/350(stable, no artifacts!)

For $130 this card has the BEST $/FPS
