Cyber Acoustics CA-2014 Multimedia Speaker System

Strengths: They look good and sound OK at low and medium volume.

Weakness: They pick up radio signals. They have audible hum and hiss. The power-on lamp is too bright.

These are two desktop speakers with an external power adapter that plugs into the wall. I bought them at Radio Shack for $15. This afternoon, I connected them to my Dell laptop. The first thing I noticed was the blue power-on light was so bright that it hurt my eyes. I put a piece of black electrical tape over it. The speakers sounded OK at low and medium volume. I did not try them at high volume.

Now it is late at night. The house is quiet. I can hear a radio station coming from the speakers. The radio is so soft that I cannot hear it when the laptop cooling fan comes on. The radio stops when I unplug the speakers from the laptop. I plug in my headphones and hear dead silence. I unplug my headphones and plug the speakers back in. I put my ear to a speaker. I can hear a low hum and some hiss. I unplug the speakers from my laptop, but the hum and hiss continue.

I might be able to stand the hum and hiss, but the radio reception is intolerable to me. I plan to return these speakers.

Cyber Acoustics CA-2014 Multimedia Speaker System

Strengths: Affordable

The speakers do what they are supposed to do! It works well with my Dell PC. The light is bright but you could always turn the speakers off or turn them away from you.

Eh, a gift, but not exactly a bundle of joy.

Strengths: *Cheap *Power light replaces any need for other lights in the room (this is a joke, a complaint really)

Weakness: *Poor sound quality at high volume. *Audible humming and fuzzy sounds when at a low volume (radio stations are also picked up) *Sound quality at a medium volume is better than at high, but not good.

My neighbor really needed new computer speakers, the ones he was using were horrible, sound quality was something akin to that of a little kid's barbie boombox toy, and it picked up radio stations (unintentionally). I bought him a new pair of speakers that were cheap, but impressive. These were not those speakers.
He gave me the old horrible speakers because he didn't need them anymore, I couldn't figure out what company produced them, all I could find was the "CA" emblem in the front. I tried messing around with the simple circuitry on them and ended up breaking them.
For my birthday my sister bought me these speakers, made by Cyber Acoustics, I instantly recognized the emblem. Now , the old speakers my neighbor had were given to him free, at a garage sale, thats how bad they were, were also old, apparently used with the garage saler's old HP computer. I hoped that because these speakers were new, and because they looked different (black instead of white), that they would be better.
While the sound quality was a little bit better, that was all, there was still radio signals, and fuzzy sounds and humming. Sure they were cheap, but it's hard to ignore weird sounds coming out of speakers that are supposed to be playing music. The power light is another nice touch to complete the package, it is horribly bright, like one of those little LED flashlights that come in different colors, an annoying distraction.
While I don't usually return gifts, I will be returning these speakers. Bad sound, coupled with bad humming sounds, with the addition of a bad design flaw make this a terrible speaker system that is worth no amount of money, no wonder my neighbor got them free.
