Sony UX50 CLIE PDA

You will like the UX50--features...

Strengths: Small and thin (excellent form factor), high resolution display, excellent keyboard with shortcut function to quickly access your favorite applications, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth.

Weakness: Only a few applications support landscape display (this will change very soon), only 3 hard buttons (typical Palm devices have 4 buttons) which has problems with many apps that use all 4 hard buttons

You will like the UX50--features pack in a very small and slim form. As I see more and more apps are supporting landscape display, I am pleased that I bought my UX50.

The supplied software needs a bit of work. The Clie e-Mail and Netfront are not the best programs to use. In Clie e-mail you can not read HTML e-mails also there is bit of problem downloading larger e-mails. In Netfront you cannot search secure websites such as hotmail.com.
The camera feature is great. The photo quality is amazing for such a small lens. The lens is wide angle and macro at the same time. The photos are clear enough to use for 4x6 photos.

I bought this for my wife who has...

Strengths: Intergrated Wireless,Bluetooth. I like the landscape screen, it looks like a mini laptop. Choice of input (keyboard,Pen) I can use my memory sticks from my sony ditial camera with it.

Weakness: Screen could be larger for more intense users but it is ok for me.

I bought this for my wife who has been complaining about how she forgets her schedule. I have been using it, just to play with it, since I am a techno geek and love a new toy in the house. This is my first PDA and have researched PDA's and found that I got the most bang for the buck with this one. I believe certain manufactures specialize in certain types of products and I fond that sony excells in PDA's with this new line. I didn't like their older line that use to weigh 8oz, too heavy. When I received this one I thought it was going to be a lot bigger, I was superised. Never looked at it in person, only pictures online. Plan on using Wireless when I set up my wireless network at home. No use for blusetooth right now, but better be prepared then not to be. Fits in my dress shirt pocket and not to heavy. Screen swivles so that it folds on top of the keyboard (if not using it).

I've had my Sony Clie UX-50 for a couple of weeks now after upgrading from my Palm Tungsten T2. I thoroughly enjoy the keyboard and additional features this device has to offer. I've used almost every feature already in everyday use. I can snap a quick picture with the Built-in Camera, Record a meeting with the Voice Recorder, quickly change back and forth between Datebook, Memo, etc. with the available buttons or keyboard shortcuts. This thing is amazing. The visual clarity on the 480x320 screen is leaps and bounds above the T2 screen. The included Clie 3D Launcher application is very visually pleasing and easy to use. Make sure you purchase a high capacity Memory Stick Pro to use with this as you will want to carry Music, Images, Movies, eBooks, and everything else you might need on a daily basis. I highly recommend the Sony PEG-UX50 for any business professional, techie, or individual that wants to get organized.
