Strengths: A price that can't be beat. Comes with both beige and black faceplates is definitely a big plus.

This Optorite is the best priced DVD writer on the market. I don't think you can find a better price for a different brand. Although I only have this drive for 2 days, I've already made 40+ burns on different +R and -R media. No problems so far. I use good quality DVD media only and I stay away from cheapos. Strengths: Easy to Use, fast burning, great price! Two color pannel.

Weakness: Installation instructions aren't that great. Hard to replace plastic pannel (takes some thinking and skill).

I had a hard time installing the writer because the installation guide did not account for drive replacement. It assumed that you have an extra drive. If you are replacing an existing CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive with the OptoRite, you need to first uninstall the existing driver from device management before installing the new hardware. I had a hard time installing the writer because the installation guide did not account for drive replacement. It assumed that you have an extra drive. If you are replacing an existing CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive with the OptoRite, you need to first uninstall the existing driver from device management before installing the new hardware. Other than that, XP recognized it right away and has not had any problem since. Be patient with reject, it may take a few seconds. Used it to backup a movie and played on my Apex AD-800 DVD player with no problem. With this kind of price and quality, would recommend to anyone (bought from Newegg)!

Basically tonight my 2nd DD0405...

Strengths: Was a great drive while it worked

Weakness: Stopped working

Basically tonight my 2nd DD0405 drive failed in the same manner, it no longer reads or writes any media. I've started to look for a replacement and I'm avoiding Optorite.

For $60, I got a great and...

Strengths: Works very well. Windows XP picked it up without any problems. Comes with Nero, PowerDVD, and MyDVD (DVD authoring software).

Weakness: None.

For $60, I got a great and versatile DVD writing device,
plus a great bundle of programs that cover up most
of what I want to do with it.
One of my best buys so far.
