Artec VOM-12E48X DVD±RW Writer

Strengths: cheap

Weakness: does not work

what a piece of junk. came bundled with some ancient version of nero OEM suite that is not supported nor upgradable on their website. and i was so happy thinking i was going to get nero burning rom. so far it can read a CD, but not play DVDs nor successfully write either CD's or DVD's i bought this at fry's for $69.95. what a mistake i should have paid a few dollars more and gotten a name brand.

Artec VOM-12E48X DVD±RW Writer

Strengths: None at all

Weakness: Everything...Cheap and doesn't work

I bought this drive (retail version) from Zipzoomfly and it didn't work. It will only read CDs (any kind) at very low speeds and it makes alot of noise in doing so (very annoying). It won't burn any type of CD-R or DVD, all it does is spin up so fast it sounds like it is going to blow apart, then pretty much locks up for about 2-3 mins then quits and gives one of a number of error messages. The...

Artec VOM-12E48X DVD±RW Writer

Strengths: It's cheap.

Weakness: Iffy quality control.

Some misinformed person bought a bunch of these for my dept. at work. My CD burner (another junkie Artec) gave up the ghost and I got one of these as a replacement. The first one wrote defective DVDs and couldn't read CDRs. The second seems to work for now. It has the slowest drawer I have ever seen on an optical drive. It looks and sounds like an old man getting up in the morning. Your money is...

Pass on this one.

Strengths: In general it is able to read most formats. It has been in service for several years, and it works as good now as it ever did.

Weakness: More failures than success when it comes to burning.

You will spend a lot more on wasted DVDs than the money you saved during the initial purchase. It takes a lot of time and money thrown at this drive if you ever want to have a successful burn. There are no firmware upgrades that I can find on any of the search engines. I am currently using the drive as the read unit of my for movie backup projects. It does fine as a DVD rom/Coaster-maker. Save...

waste of time

Strengths: none

Weakness: burns dvd incredibly slow, and fails more often then not.

this burner should be pulled from the shelves and put in the trash where it belongs, or sold as a reader and not a writer, and artec should give full refunds "and written apologies" to everyone who got fooled into this one. i would suggest to anyone not to buy the VOM and spend an extra 20 bucks or so on a sony DRU810A or a pioneer... wakecowboy.
